‘Migrant smuggler’s’ smile as trial begins

The alleged Afghan ringleader of 12 men accused over the deaths of 71 migrants found in an abandoned truck in Austria in 2015 flashed a smile at the courtroom as the trial began yesterday.

The man, identified as 30-year-old Samsoor L, plus 10 Bulgarians and a Lebanese national were surrounded by armed police in the court in the Hungarian town of Kecskemet. The 59 men, eight women and four children were found crammed inside a refrigerated lorry near the border.
