Paltry energy savings
SIR – Ofgem claims (report, June 21) that households could save £370million a year when subsidies for small power plants are cut. This means that each of Britain’s 27million energy users will save an average of £13.70 a year – or less than 5p per day.

SIR – Michael Heaton (Letters, June 20) states that his gas and electricity cost less than he spends on beer.
I was amazed until I realised that the cost of my two glasses of wine a day exceeds my lighting and heating costs. Jon Summers
