Dive-bombing seagulls force pupils to abandon playground

-

A flock of seagulls has forced a school to ban pupils from the playground after the birds launched divebombing attacks.

Ysgol Eifion Wyn in Porthmadog, in north Wales, has kept children inside during break-time at least twice this week after herring gulls began swooping around the heads of parents, teachers and children.

The seagulls have left the school in “lockdown” in fear of their sharp beaks.

Some parents have reported being “too scared” to pick up their children.

Seagulls nest on the roof of the school, and swoop down on anyone who dares venture outside.

It is believed their aggressive behaviour is aimed at protecting their chicks.

Gwynedd council has been informed.

Carys Jones, the head teacher, has been in touch with the RSPCA, RSPB, and pest control at Gwynedd council in an attempt to tackle the problem.
