Protest over man’s death descends into violence
A protest over the treatment of a driver who died six days after being stopped by Met Police officers descended into violence last night.
Bricks were thrown at police as campaigners demanded “justice” for Edir Frederico Da Costa, who they claim was “brutally beaten”.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the treatment of the 25-year-old, who was stopped in Newham, east London, in June. The IPCC said a preliminary post mortem indicated there were no spinal injuries caused by police.
