Former SNP leader Gordon Wilson dies
Gordon Wilson, the former Scottish National Party leader who has died after a short illness, was remembered yesterday as a “passionate advocate for Scotland at every level”.
The party said Mr Wilson, who led the SNP for 11 years, died in hospital, aged 79. Nicola Sturgeon led the tributes to her predecessor, saying he made an immense contribution to the party’s success.
Mr Wilson worked as a solicitor before being elected as the MP for Dundee East in 1974, a seat he held for the next 13 years.
