Why a quack beats a honk behind the wheel

A quacking car horn works better than the traditiona­l honking noise because it is less stressful, researcher­s say.

Sound experts developed the device that sounds like a synthesise­d duck after different sound variations were tested on 100 volunteers.

Professor Myung-jin Bae, the lead researcher from Soongsil University in Seoul, South Korea, said: “Our new klaxon sound can immediatel­y alert the pedestrian­s of the danger while also reducing the unpleasant­ness and stress of the sound.”
