Surgeries may get power to turn patients away

GP surgeries could turn away patients under proposals for a “black alert” system to stop doctors being overwhelmed.

A motion will be debated at the BMA’S annual conference to let GPS have a similar system to hospitals.

Black alerts are issued at some hospitals when they reach capacity, usually meaning they will divert patients elsewhere for emergency care.
