Skirts into battle

- Roger Croston

SIR – Maybe the boys in skirts (report, June 24) have been studying the East Africa campaign in the First World War and were influenced by the eccentric attire of Lieutenantcommander Geoffrey Basil Spicersimson.

He wore skirts designed by his wife Amy because he found they kept him cool as he fought naval battles against German East African forces on the Great Lakes.
