Facebook like a religion, claims Zuckerberg

The creator of Facebook has compared the social media site to a religion, saying that people could find “purpose and support” online that previous generations found by going to church.

Mark Zuckerberg said in a speech that groups on Facebook could give people a sense they are part of “something bigger than ourselves”, akin to a religious congregation.

Facebook revealed it now has more than two billion monthly active users, 13 years after it was created in a Harvard University dormitory.
