Black Art Matters RADIO 4, 11.30AM
Sonia Boyce explores the current interest in black British art through the life of artist Donald Rodney. Rodney suffered from sickle cell disease and died in his thirties in 1998. But Rodney crammed a huge amount of artistic output into his short life. Boyce looks at the inspiration behind his political, challenging and innovative art. She also talks to his family about the racial politics in Great Britain that he worked against, asks why there has been a resurgence of interest in his work, and muses on what he might be creating now if he were still alive.
