Appeal for £3m to save last flying Sea Vixen jet

-

The last flying Sea Vixen jet fighter needs up to £3m of repairs after it was damaged in an emergency landing.

The Navy Wings charity yesterday appealed for a ‘white knight’ to save the former Fleet Air Arm aircraft.

The jet skidded along the runway at high speed at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset last month after a hydraulic fault meant the pilot was unable to lower the flaps or under-carriage.

Engineers say it could take 4 years and cost up to £3 million to repair the plane. The charity said: “A white knight is needed to save the last flying Sea Vixen, recognising her uniqueness and value to the nation’s naval aviation heritage.”
