Flashy horns

-

SIR – Wouldn’t it be good if, when you hoot (Comment, June 27), your hazard lights also automatically flashed, extra rapidly? This would show who is responsible for the hooting (often hard to tell) and, more important, alert the many using headphones (and the deaf) that there is danger. Tony Hambro

SIR – Pedestrians and horse-riders in winding country lanes with tall hedges are at increasing risk of being startled by the rapid and nearly silent approach from behind of electric cars.

Perhaps the manufacturers of these vehicles could be required to install continuously sounding bird calls to make their presence known in advance.

At speeds up to 30mph a duck might suffice (Letters, June 29), but above that speed perhaps the honking of a goose would be preferable.

City life would incidentally be much improved by these sounds. Colin Pountney
