Off-duty policemen took on armed thieves with bare hands
♦ Two off-duty police officers have been hailed heroes after confronting a gang of armed robbers when they stumbled on a jewellery raid.
Sgt Iain Mcivor was celebrating his promotion with colleague Sgt David Wilson in a pub when they heard screaming from a nearby shop. Barehanded, the Lincolnshire Police officers challenged four men armed with shotguns at Andrew Michael’s in Newark, Notts. The thieves escaped with £250,000 worth of jewellery and watches but were caught later. The officers have been nominated for a national award for “bravery in the finest traditions of the British police service”.
