England could move to ‘opt-out’ organ donation

-

Rules on organ donation in England could be changed so that people have to opt out if they do not want to be a donor, rather than joining a register.

After Scotland and Wales brought in an opt-out system to tackle transplant waiting lists, Downing Street said it was “keeping a close eye” on the reforms to see if donor rates improve before deciding on changes. More than 23.5 million people are on the register but around three people die each day waiting for a suitable organ.
