‘Bucket list’ man is first in tennis queue

- By Hannah Furness

WIMBLEDON fans have camped for 60 hours to secure a centre court ticket, as the first place in the queue was taken by a computer technician who had put it on his “bucket list”.

Des Robson, 48, from Northumberland, began to camp at 1.30am on Saturday, 60 hours before play starts at 1pm today, beating the previous record of 6.30am on Saturday, set last year.

He said: “I drew up a bucket list after having two heart attacks two years ago – and getting on Centre Court at Wimbledon is top of the list. After Wimbledon, next on the list are climbing Ben Nevis and doing the Great North Run.” He added: “But I’m worried Murray’s hip injury will haunt him and he’ll struggle.”

Elle-anne Lee, 21, a dental nurse from Cambridge, was second in the queue. She said: “I arrived at 6.15am on Saturday as I so wanted to see Murray on Centre Court – and as my dad bet me £100 I wouldn’t get in the first three in the queue, now I’m quids in.”

Stuart Bere, 42, a civil servant from Lincolnshire, who has queued at every Wimbledon for 25 years, was fourth. He said: “Andy can win it again.”
