A gentle warning toot is all that’s necessary
SIR – I have just returned from the lovely Greek island of Skiathos, where car horns are still used almost universally as a warning (Letters, June 30).
In Britain, by contrast, they are generally used as an admonition after the event. It is amusing to see Britons who are new to the island react angrily to a gentle warning toot.
Is there any legislation that could ensure that car horns in the United Kingdom are used only for their intended purpose?
