Beastly entertainment
SIR – While I can understand the outrage felt by Samantha Francis (“Sheep race cancelled after 40,000 brand it as baa-baric”, report, July 1), not all forms of “using animals for entertainment” have been left in the “dark ages”, as she claims.
I cite horse racing, greyhound racing, show-jumping, dressage, eventing, polo, pigeon racing, the use of hounds and sheep-shearing competitions. Graham Gibbs
