Timeline the downfall of Kids Company
June 2015
Local authorities are warned that Camberwell-based charity, Kids Company, is in financial difficulty. Nevertheless, MPS Oliver Letwin and Matthew Hancock approve a £3 million grant.
July 2
The charity is told it will get no further funding unless its chief executive, Camila Batmanghelidjh, steps down. She does so the following day but denies allegations of mismanagement.
July 31
It is reported that the Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation into allegations relating to the charity.
August 5
Kids Company closes and it is reported that the Cabinet Office is trying to recoup the £3million granted only a few weeks earlier.
October 15
Batmanghelidjh and Kids Company trustee Alan Yentob appear in front of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee. They deny mismanagement.
November
The Public Accounts Committee submits its report, stating that Kids Company was a failed experiment and criticising both the Labour and Conservative governments for continuing to give public money to the charity, despite concerns from the civil service.
December 3
Yentob resigns from his post as BBC creative director following the controversy, and amid allegations that he used intimidation within the corporation to influence how it reported the story.
January 28 2016
The Metropolitan Police drops its investigation into allegations of abuse.
