Balancing act

Djokovic claims Eastbourne title

- Simon Briggs

In Eastbourne on Saturday, Novak Djokovic eased past Gaël Monfils to claim his first ATP title since Jan 7. Yet Djokovic says he no longer considers such successes to be the most important aspects of his life. Speaking to reporters yesterday, he explained: “I used to base all my happiness on winning a tennis match [but] I try not to do that any more. Some other things were suffering during that time. So it’s always [about] figuring out what’s the right balance.”

Djokovic also explained the thinking behind the appointment of former Wimbledon semi-finalist Mario Ancic as his new assistant coach, working alongside Andre Agassi. “He was one of the players on the tour that I’ve had the closest relationship with. We speak the same language. Things were very easy for us in terms of speaking.”
