Judges told ‘get tough’ after Grenfell disaster

Judges have been told to issue tougher sentences for gross negligence manslaughter in the wake of the Grenfell and Hillsborough disasters. The Sentencing Council said judges can hand out prison terms of up to 18 years in the most serious cases. The longest sentences previously were less than 10 years.
