Judges told ‘get tough’ after Grenfell disaster

Judges have been told to issue tougher sentences for gross negligence manslaught­er in the wake of the Grenfell and Hillsborou­gh disasters. The Sentencing Council said judges can hand out prison terms of up to 18 years in the most serious cases. The longest sentences previously were less than 10 years.
