Britain is better without the dangerous wolf

-

sir – I see that the Wildwood Trust wants to reintroduce the wolf, lynx and brown bear into Britain (report, July 1), thereby undoing the centuries of good work that cleared the country of these dangerous animals.

sir – If packs of dogs, controlled by humans on horseback, which are trained to track and kill only foxes or red deer, are not allowed by law to operate in Britain, why should packs of wolves, with no control as to what or how they kill, be allowed to pursue and tear to pieces animals whether deer, sheep, domestic pets or even humans?

If deer populations are too high, then shooting by trained marksmen would be a far more humane method of controlling them, and the resulting meat would be a valuable source of food.
