Garden shows should drop the scrap metal
sir – I am a member of the Royal Horticultural Society, and would like to congratulate Bunny Guinness for being brave enough to voice what ordinary gardeners have been thinking for a long time – that the “statement” gardens at Chelsea and Hampton Court in recent years have not reflected what most gardeners want to see (report, July 3).
Where are the proper gardens? We don’t want supposedly meaningful concrete and metal.
After the disappointing show at Chelsea this year, it looks as if we are being treated to similar nonsense at Hampton Court.
The RHS is losing its way. If it doesn’t change, it will lose members.
