CHANNEL 4, 10.00PM

- The Windsors

Channel 4’s lewd, crude and completely over-the-top comedy about the royal family returns for a second series – and fans of its brashly entertaining mash-up of Dynasty and local panto will be delighted to know that the hair remains big, the jokes are still broad and the over-acting is as camp, and as mesmerising, as ever.

We pick up with a nervous Harry (Richard Goulding) about to introduce his girlfriend Meghan Markle (“I’m an actress? In Suits?”) to the rest of the firm and worried that if anything goes wrong he may have to follow Edward VIII’S example and live in France (“and I can’t be expected to learn another language”).

He’s not the only one struggling, as Wills (Hugh Skinner, making hapless incompetence strangely endearing) attempts to become a hands-on father, Charles (Harry Enfield) wrestles with his conscience and Anne (a scene-stealing Vicki Pepperdine) takes Eugenie and Beatrice in hand. The biggest laughs, however, belong to Morgana Robinson’s Pippa, all wide eyes and furious scheming – to say she doesn’t take Harry’s romantic news well is something of an understatement. Poor Kate (Louise Ford) bears the brunt. As usual. Sarah Hughes
