Here comes The Kate – this summer’s haircut

-

My French hairdresser, Fred, is a total sweetheart, famous for his Zen-like calm. The only time I’ve seen him lose his cool is when he spies the Duchess of Cambridge in a magazine. Zut alors! “She need to cut ’er ’air,” he says, snapping his scissors as if ready and willing to take on the task himself. Kate’s long, tumbling locks, according to Monsieur Fred, do her no favours.

Perhaps she heard him. The Duchess turned up at Wimbledon this week with a good five inches lopped off. She looked très chic. More like a beautiful woman with a hairstyle than a hairstyle hiding a beautiful woman. By comparison, Andy Murray’s wife, Kim, with her long tresses, appeared outdated.

Like a Samson in reverse, shorter hair can signal growing strength in a woman. At the age of 35, Catherine is coming into her own.

Hairdressers of Britain, brace yourselves. And start practising The Kate.
