Flash-flood warning as thunderstorms forecast

Environment Agency teams have been put on alert as forecasters have predicted a high risk of thunderstorms from early today, with heavy rain that could lead to sudden flooding.

The Met Office said that while isolated thunderstorms may miss many places in England and Wales, other areas face “intense downpours”.

Chris Wilding, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, said: “This could lead to localised flooding and disruption to travel. Our teams are out on the ground and will support local authorities in responding to surface water flooding.”
