Imam denies trying to recruit jihadists abroad

A Uk-based imam wanted by Spanish authoritie­s over claims he was part of a group trying to recruit jihadists to fight in Syria says he is innocent.

Tarik Chadlioui, 43, was one of six people arrested across Europe on June 28 at the request of investigat­ors in Majorca. He is accused of recording videos encouragin­g people to go to fight for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant during two visits to the Balearic island in 2014 and 2015, an extraditio­n hearing at Westminste­r magistrate­s’ court was told yesterday.

The Belgian national, a father of eight, has been living in Britain for two years. He denies the charges.
