We’re protecting the guards, say inmates

-

 Prisons are now so out of control that inmates are protecting the guards, a prisoner has warned, after an officer was stabbed in the neck.

The guard, who is believed to be in his 40s, was in a “really bad way” following the attack at Norwich Prison. An inmate, who asked not to be named for fear of his safety, told BBC Radio Norfolk the officer was attacked by a prisoner. “If it hadn’t been for another officer he would have been killed. He was in a really bad way.

“But since it happened nothing has changed. There aren’t enough staff. It’s a case of inmates protecting guards.”
