Seven children killed in football match stampede

At least eight people, seven of whom were children, were killed and 40 more injured in a stampede at a football match in Lilongwe celebrating Malawi’s independence day.

Police claimed spectators forced open the gates, and one eyewitness said the stampede occurred as police used tear gas to disperse the crowds.
