‘Fears of vandalism should not stop statue of Thatcher’
THERESA MAY has said fears that a new statue of Margaret Thatcher will be vandalised should not stop it being erected in Parliament Square.
The Prime Minister intervened after it emerged the Royal Parks, a government agency that owns the land, is opposing the statue.
However Mrs May stepped in at the G20 summit, saying: “What I’m very clear about is there should be no suggestion that the threat of vandalism should stop a statue of Margaret Thatcher from being put up.”
It is understood Carol and Mark Thatcher will not support a statue because the “time is not right”.
