Desecration of Mosul

SIR – Can nothing be done to halt the desecration, theft and destruction of internationally important artefacts and buildings? May eternal shame fall on those who destroyed the Mosul minaret and mosque (report, June 30).

I am fortunate to have a beautiful silver model of it, made in Mosul for my father as a farewell gift to him after years of teaching English and Arabic in their schools. He would have been mortified by this vandalism. Hugh Linnell
