SIR – As a former needlework teacher and seamstress, I would point out that the polka dots on the Duchess of Cambridge’s dress (Letters, July 5) couldn’t be matched down the seams unless the dress was a complete cylinder. The seams down the panels are to give shape to the dress and are thus impossible to match up. The spots across the dress are the important ones to keep level. On the dress pictured this appears to have been done. Anna Taylor
