Getting geese to the other side

-

Families of geese will soon be able to cross a road in safety after Transport for London (TFL) bosses approved new signs alerting motorists to their presence.

The triangular warning signs were proposed after a number of goslings were hit by a car while crossing Bromley Road, in Bellingham, south east London.

Families of geese cross the road at least twice a day to get to nearby Peter Pan’s Pond.

Alan Hall, a Lewisham borough councillor who backed the campaign to have the signs installed, said: “It is wonderful to have nature close up and present in our city and with a little help from their friends, the presence of these geese could be alerted to motorists who would then be aware that they need to take care.”

A TFL spokesman said: “We’ll be installing the signage within the next two weeks.”
