First gay Muslim wedding in Britain
A Muslim man who tried to kill himself after being attacked over his sexuality is believed to have become the first of his faith in the UK to wed in a same-sex marriage. Jahed Choudhury, 24, had previously attempted to take his own life when Sean Rogan, 19, found him crying on a bench. After two years together, they are now married.
Mr Choudhury, from Darlaston, Walsall, said: “This is about showing people I don’t care. My family… think it’s a disease and can be cured.
“I want to say to all people going through the same thing that’s it’s OK – we’re going to show the whole world that you can be gay and Muslim.
“I’d been viciously attacked, my mosque told me non-muslims were not allowed in. I tried killing myself and I then met Sean.”
