Radio choice Charlotte Runcie
RADIO 2, 9.30AM
Ken Bruce is live from the Wimbledon, where he’s speaking to fans, pundits and tennis players about this year’s tournament as it approaches the semi-finals. There’s an extra fizz of celebration in the air this year as it marks 90 years since the first radio broadcast from Wimbledon, 80 years since the first television transmission, and 50 years since the first colour broadcast. Bruce promises to get up to mischief around the site, and maybe even sneak into Centre Court’s commentary box for a round of Popmaster. Four Thought: Understanding Drug Addiction
RADIO 4, 8.45PM
People suffering from drug addictions are often seen by outsiders as weak or in some way personally deficient, but this thoughtprovoking first episode (of eight) seeks to correct that stereotype. It begins by looking in more depth at the reasons people turn to drugs, and what affect drugs really have on people’s lives. The talk is given by Hanna Pickard, an academic philosopher who has also worked for the NHS, and is presented by Helen Zaltzman at the Phoenix Artist Club in London.
