Anti-brexit Tory elected to lead select committee

-

An anti-brexit Conservative MP has been elected as chairman of one of the most powerful select committees in the House of Commons thanks to the support of Labour MPS.

Nicky Morgan, who has repeatedly clashed with the Prime Minister, became the first female chairman of the Treasury select committee after an election last night.

Ms Morgan, who was sacked as education secretary last year by Theresa May, beat fellow Conservative Jacob Rees-mogg into second place by 290 votes to 226, with the support of anti-brexit Labour MPS.
