Firemen to strike for two days over pay

♦ Firemen at the Sellafield nuclear site are to stage their second day of strike action later this month in a dispute over pay.

Members of the GMB union will walk out for 24 hours on July 31 after previously announcing they will strike on July 24.

The union said an offer from the company would still leave firemen’s pay nearly 5 per cent below the combined increase in the inflation rate since 2009.

Chris Jukes, GMB senior organiser, said: “Sellafield has sought to portray its workforce as motivated by greed. But it failed to say it had given managers between a 12 per cent and 32 per cent rise in basic pay.”
