Coin toss honour for boy who defeated anger issues

- By Rozina Sabur and Patrick Sawer

A BOY who received counselling after suffering from anger issues at school performed the coin toss for the Wimbledon men’s final.

Luca Schmetzer, 11, was chosen by children’s mental health charity Place2be, which provides emotional support to youngsters.

Luca, from Wandsworth in London, said: “When I was in Year Five I was struggling to get along with pupils in my class, so I was having arguments and I didn’t really get along with my teacher and my schoolwork was slipping.

“I went to Place2be and it helped me not to argue.”

Luca added that he felt “absolutely amazed” to be chosen. The Wimbledon Foundation invited the Duchess of Cambridge to nominate a charity to select the youngster who would perform the coin toss in her first year as patron of the All England Club.
