The next monarch
SIR – I am surprised that John Hinchsliff (Letters, July 17), a selfproclaimed royalist, should seek to undermine the monarchy by denying the accession of the rightful heir in favour of the next-in-line, simply because the Duke of Cambridge and his charming wife have “captivated the British people”. Would he have the monarch chosen by popular vote?
I can see no constitutional impediment to the next King’s wife being the Queen Consort, whether or not she has “won over” anyone. Stuart Flitton
