Barclays four trial date
THE former boss of Barclays and three other ex-directors will stand trial in January 2019 over the bank’s emergency fundraising with Qatar almost a decade ago.
The trial date for ex-chief executive John Varley, Roger Jenkins, Thomas Kalaris and Richard Boath was confirmed at Southwark Crown Court. Alongside the bank itself, the four were charged with fraud relating to £322m in fees Barclays is alleged to have paid in dealings with Qatari investors in 2008.
♦ Separately yesterday, three former traders, who worked at Barclays, Citigroup and Jpmorgan, pleaded not guilty to US charges relating to alleged benchmark rigging.
