Children’s hats fit for a fashionable grown-up

-

sir – Like your correspondent Gill Rolls-willson (Letters, July 17), I have given up trying to find a sun hat small enough to fit me.

I have discovered that children’s hats are the answer, but are usually far too garish for mature wearers.

It is possible, thankfully, to find more suitable ones online and, unlike the dreaded one-size adult versions, they can usually be ordered by measurements.

I am guarding my nice little straw hat carefully in case at some point children become one-size-fits-all too. Christine Marlow

sir – For ladies who can only find hats that cover their eyes as well as their heads, I have the solution.

Buy a self-adhesive foam rubber draught excluder from a DIY shop; cut it to the appropriate length, remove the protective backing and attach it to the inside of the hat. Alison Adams
