£1bn DUP deal disputed by Scotland and Wales
The Scottish and Welsh governments have triggered a formal dispute over their demands for extra funding in response to the Conservative deal with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).
They claim the £1billion agreed for Northern Ireland to keep Theresa May in Downing Street should have resulted in “consequential” funding for the devolved administrations.
The Scottish Parliament says that, if normal rules were applied, Scotland would get an additional £2.9billion and Wales an extra £1.67 billion. The UK Government says the Barnett formula, which sets funding for the devolved administrations, does not apply to the DUP deal.
