Stolen Bacon paintings recovered in Spain

Spain’s National Police said its agents had recovered three of five prized paintings by the British artist Francis Bacon that were stolen from an apartment in Madrid in July 2015.

The market value of the five artworks was estimated to be more than €25million (£22million).

Police had arrested seven suspects linked to the theft last year and three more in January this year.

The paintings were part of a collection owned by a close friend of Bacon in central Madrid, according to earlier reports.
