Travelling with cancer

-

SIR – In 2015 I booked for my husband and myself to take a week’s holiday in Lake Como that September. I paid the usual holiday insurance, plus extra because my husband was a Type 2 diabetic and 25 years previously he had suffered a heart attack.

In late August, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. The oncologist said it was OK for him to go on holiday. On informing the insurance company, we were asked for a further £600 (“Insurers and a ‘blind spot’ over cancer”, Your Money, July 18). The insurance company was adamant and would not consider a smaller charge. Because it would be our last holiday together, we decided to pay the extra and go ahead.

I think it’s disgusting that one can be held to ransom because of a certain illness. Ann Higham
