You can’t be too careful in a field full of cows
sir – The other day I was charged by an angry herd of cows – adult females and yearlings – while following a public footpath through a field (by myself, with no dog).
I only escaped serious injury by hurdling a barbed-wire fence at the perimeter, bordering a river. Had I been in the middle of the field, I could have been trampled.
Are cows becoming more aggressive? I don’t remember such attacks occurring when I was a child. Moreover, if such a docile creature as a cow can be dangerous, I hope the public will be consulted before known predators such as wolves, lynxes and brown bears are reintroduced to the wild, as has been proposed by the Wildwood Trust.
