What to watch
The Secret World of Posh Pets ITV, 8.00PM
It would be easy to mock the obsessions in this series – and I do really want to know what it is about Chihuahuas that makes people so eager to put clothes on them – but the good nature of (most of) those involved means that instead you tend to find yourself going along with the madness.
This week, the focus is on fashion designer Nina Naustdal, who has staked her finances on a business making couture clothes for Chihuahuas (see, I told you), the likeable Emma and Wayne, who live in Warwickshire with their 23 rabbits and dream of building their pets an Alice in Wonderland-themed play park, and Gary Hooker and Michael Young, award-winning hair salon owners who take expensive products home to shampoo their prized dogs.
“I look at people and I think, ‘God, you’d make lovely children,’ and then I look at some people and think, ‘You should never breed,’” admits Gary before adding: “That’s bad isn’t it really?” It is a bit but Gary redeems himself by proving to be excellent company as he prepares his two dogs, Zac and Scarlett, for Crufts. The latter is a particular show-stealer, exuberant, playful and lovely to look at, but can she behave in the ring? Sarah Hughes
