Family woodland named UK’S best

-

A Truro woodland planted by a local family has been named the UK’S best.

In 2013, Chris and Maria Musgrove decided to plant 1,000 saplings on four acres of land as part of the Woodland Trust’s Morewoods initiative.

The family’s fledgling woodland has been named the best by a panel of judges including Paul Martin, the BBC’S Countryfile Diaries presenter.

The Musgroves’ wood was chosen because they worked together as a family – they involved their daughters Alice, 17, and Faith, 12 – to create a lasting legacy.

Martin, who planted 500 trees on his own Wiltshire smallholding after signing up to the scheme, said: “The family really embraced the idea of creating woodland that would benefit future generations and it’s brought them together.

“If they can do it on this small scale, anyone can.”
