Anger over prison chief ’s £20k bonus
THE head of the prison service has been handed a bonus of up to £20,000 despite presiding over a “failing” system.
Michael Spurr, chief executive of the National Offender Management Service Agency, was given the payment for 2016-17 in addition to his annual salary of around £150,000.
Steve Gillan, general secretary of the Prison Officers Association said: “It’s absolutely disgraceful that those who are overseeing a crisis in the prison service have been rewarded with performance bonuses.
“It’s scandalous that they’re being rewarded for failure.”
