Britannia back at sea
SIR – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their two young children, George and Charlotte, have been doing a splendid job of diplomacy in Germany this week. This is but one of many visits that members of the Royal family make across the world every year.
Surely now would be an ideal time to build a new Royal Yacht. A second Britannia could serve many different functions. Entertaining heads of state would be one. Offering hospitality to individuals who have made great contributions to their country or community could be another. Ordinary people who have dedicated their lives to (for example) working for the NHS or teaching could even be rewarded with a holiday on the Royal Yacht.
A magnificent Britannia blazing its way around the world, visiting all the countries of the Commonwealth, would reinstate us, as if we need it, as a truly great Great Britain. Kathleen Bass
