£14bn Mastercard class action lawsuit blocked

A tribunal has blocked a £14bn class action lawsuit against Mastercard for allegedly overcharging more than 45m people over a 16-year period. The Competition Appeal Tribunal ruled against granting a collective proceedings order, which would have meant the case could have gone ahead. The case had centred around the charges levied by credit and debit card companies which it was alleged were passed on from retailers to consumers.
