World Cup-winning women earn place on Lord’s honours boards

- By Nick Hoult

ENGLAND’S women cricketers will get equal billing with the men on the Lord’s honours boards after their World Cup victory.

It means England’s heroine of the World Cup final, Anya Shrubsole, will have her six wickets recognised permanently at the home of cricket alongside the achievements of Hobbs, Boycott, Botham and many more greats of the game.

Currently, the honours boards recognise performances only in men’s Test cricket, but after Sunday’s final, the MCC is ready to change years of tradition by commemorating centuries and five-wicket hauls in oneday cricket for both sexes. “We are looking into an hon- ours board in one-day cricket for everybody,” said Derek Brewer, the MCC chief executive. “There are some practical issues we have to address first such as where it will be situated and how long back in time we go, but… an honours board for both men and women would be the way forward.”
